Hope Box and Prom Dress Collection Drive!
February 28th through March 20th
Peoples Tax has teamed up with WPER to help collect formal dresses and hope boxes for the Hope for Appalachia Virginia Team’s annual trip to Kentucky. Each hope box collected, each dress donated, is an opportunity for a child to hear that Jesus loves them. Hope For Appalachia Teams visit public schools in some of the most impoverished areas of our country. Many kids lack access to basic necessities like food, socks, shoes, and even toothbrushes. Many are in foster care or live with grandparents. Others have been impacted by family drug addition or subjected to extreme neglect and abuse. Many middle school and high school girls would love to attend school dances, but can’t afford or don’t have access to purchase formal dresses. By meeting these two needs in the community, the Hope for Appalachia Teams are able to teach each child about the love of Christ.
This year the WPER family has been issued a challenge, to create and collect 4,000 additional COMPLETE hope boxes to send to kids in Kentucky. The team is also hoping to collect 2,000 formal dresses to deliver to schools and churches for formal dances held throughout the school year, including prom.
You can help by donating your formal dresses that are just hanging in your closet!
You can also put together a Hope Box for a child in need!
Here’s How You Can Put Together a Hope Box…
1. Start with a 6 quart plastic Sterilite shoe box
Plastic shoe boxes travel better and the kids can reuse them over and over for things at school and at home. We prefer the Sterilite plastic shoe boxes, as we have noticed that the Dollar Tree shoe boxes are breaking in transport.
2. Decide if you want to pack for a boy or girl
3. Choose an age group
Age groups are categorized by:
- Pre k – 2nd (ages 4 – 8)
- 3rd – 5th (ages 8 – 11)
- 6th – 8th (ages 11 – 14)
- 9th – 12th (ages 14 – 18)
4. Fill the plastic shoe box
Fill the plastic shoe box with school supplies, hygiene items, and toys that are appropriate for the age group. Please see the lists below of what to include and not to include. There is also an idea list that you can print at the bottom of this page!
We ask that each box contain:
- A Toothbrush
- A Pair of Socks
- 2 or more fun items
5. Place a label on your Hope Box
Print your labels below. They can be printed on regular paper and taped to the top of the box.
You can pray over the child that will be receiving the box as well as the missionary delivering the box.
7. Drop off your Hope Box
You can drop off your Hope Box at one of our three Peoples Tax locations.
