The 2014 filing season will begin January 31, 2014. The IRS will begin accepting and processing returns and refunds on that date. There is no advantage to filing on paper before the opening date and you will receive your refund much faster by using e-file with direct deposit. You can get the process started early with your Peoples Tax Professional and we can be ready to e-file your tax return on January 31st, when e-filing begins. Once the filing season begins, the IRS expects to issue more than 9 out of 10 refunds in less than 21 days. Even though the IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days, it’s possible your tax return may require additional review and take longer.
Under federal law, all tax payment and filing deadlines remain in effect. This includes the April 15 deadline for most taxpayers.
Use Where’s My Refund? to Check the Status of Your Refund.
The tool includes a tracker that displays progress through 3 stages: (1) Return Received, (2) Refund Approved and (3) Refund Sent.
You will get personalized refund information based on the processing of your tax return. The tool provides an actual refund date as soon as the IRS processes your tax return and approves your refund. Remember, most refunds will be issued in less than 21 days.
You are able to start checking on the status of your return within 24 hours after the IRS has received your e-filed return or 4 weeks after you mail a paper return.
